Nantucket

To celebrate our first anniversary, my husband and I took a short weekend trip to Nantucket and we had SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FUN. In the short time we spent there, Nantucket became my favorite place to visit and can't wait to return. On the first day we were there, shopping for Nantucket Reds was our primary directive as my husband bought a pair of short from Murray's Toggery. My big find of the day was a needlepoint cuff from York Designs. On the second day (our first wedding anniversary!!), we biked the entire island from Madaket to Sconset. Unfortunately, we had to return to the real world, but remain dreaming of the island life.

My outfit of the day for our bike ride:

Shirt: J.Crew Chambray tank (old)
Necklace: Long Pearl necklace from Vis-A-Vis on Nantucket
Nail Polish: Instant Hot by Essie

First Wedding Anniversary

On Sunday, my husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary!! I remember the week before the ceremony that I was praying for nice weather. Late July in
Louisville is usually a hot mess of humidity. Understandably, I chose a chiffon dress from my beloved J.Crew to stay cool because nothing is worse than sweating on your wedding day. I do not remember being too nervous beforehand because I always knew my husband was the One. We have had a happy first year together and hope for many more.

Here are pictures from our big day:

On a side note, I recommend getting married in flats to all future brides. It made the day so much more comfortable!!

Relaxed Weekends

I love weekends on the North Shore of Boston. There are so many possibilities for a fun day!! It's nice to be able to go to the beach, play a match of tennis, or go to the historical sites around Boston (still haven't been down to Lexington and Concord or the Quincey Church). Today, the husband and I are catching up on some quality T.V. time on Netflix by watching The Twilight Zone (I'm a fan of old shows.). Later on, we are going to see Pacific Rim with some friends...I hope it's good!!

Here is my Outfit of the Day from yesterday:

Only for a quick run to Target...no sweatpants out of the house for this lady.
Ralph Lauren Sleeveless Polo // J.Crew Denim Skirt (old) // J.Crew gold belt (similar) // Vintage Pearl Necklace // Jack Rogers Napa Valley Navajos

Next weekend is my first anniversary with my husband!! We are going to celebrate it on Nantucket. This week's blog posts might be a little nostalgic with some wedding pictures. Can't wait to spend some quality time with the hubby on the beach. I got inspired by a weekend on Nantucket on Polyvore:

Currently Reading

I'm one of those people who read for fun. Sure, when I was in college, I was assigned some very dull books...#historymajorproblems, but I devoured books about George Washington, American constitutionalism, or the Weimar Republic. Currently, I am reading Pour Your Heart Into It: How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time by Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz and Dori Jones Yang. Schultz recounts his background and Starbucks rise to popularity as he also explains Starbucks method of creating the coffee shop experience. It has been an interesting read so far as I did not know all the details Starbucks puts into the business to treat employees well and make a good cup of coffee.

My next read will be Colonial Marblehead: From Rogues to Revolutionaries. When I moved to Salem (I actually live closer to downtown Marblehead than downtown Salem), I did not realize that the American Navy was initially formed there during American Revolution. I love reading books at places other than my home. The outfit below is similar to something I would wear to find a cozy place to read.

Being More Adventurous

Since I moved to Massachusetts, I have become more adventurous. Back in my Kentucky days, I would definitely say that I was a more cautious person that did not take a lot of risks. I      studied in college rather than partying too much and worked to keep myself busy (and fund my closet...but that's a different story). I wanted to explore New England the second I moved into my new apartment. My husband and I began exploring the different historical places of Boston and the surrounding towns, but being the very active person I am, I needed a challenge. I have found that challenge in horseback riding lessons.

Growing up, members of my family owned horses on our historic family farm, but since I lived in Louisville almost and hour and a half away, I never took lessons except for maybe two times with a friend. When I moved to the North Shore, I needed a physical challenge. I decided to start riding lessons over tennis lessons and I am sooooooooo happy with my choice. Riding is quite fun and I've only just started.

As I have been getting into riding lessons, I have been adoring all equestrian themed items that have crossed my path...I am crushing on those Aigle riding boots and they're going to be added to me Wish List for sure.

What fun activities do y'all do to challenge yourself??

Strolling Down Newbury Street

Yesterday, my mom, Caroline, and I were supposed to go on a whale watch, but it got cancelled at last minute. My sissy and I decided to make a trip down to Newbury Street instead!! Newbury Street is one of my favorite places to go shopping. There are so many different kinds of shops from vintage book stores to Chanel before the street reach the Boston Commons. When shopping down Newbury Street in the summer, I suggest a nice pair of flats because it is quite a walk down that street. I wore an athletic outfit yesterday (the No Limits tank and Groove pants from Lululemon), but I wish I had this J. Crew denim dress to beat the heat that has blanketed the Bay State this weekend.

While down on Newbury Street, Caroline and I shopped for cute decorations for my apartment. (Decorating is not my forte...) We found some cute bowls to display my earrings at Anthropologie and a cute peplum top from Madewell. On Newbury, there are three Second Time Around stores, which are upscale consignment stores. While I looked through the racks, I found this vintage Lilly in the print Chow Wagon with its original tags!!

What are some of your favorite places to shop?
